The Island

There is an island
That never forgets
With a spell on me
It finds me in my dreams
And takes me there
Over and over
It's your place
Among the ancestors
And therefore mine
In the sanctuary
On the sea
With danger all around
I try to find you
But time runs out
No other place
Commands such attention
I see from above
And below
And in every heartbeat
And every story
There is an island
That never forgets
With a spell on me
It finds me in my dreams
And takes me there
Over and over

This artwork is a chair upholstered with a bespoke design of an island reflected in the sea. The repeat patterns and colour of the design echoes the style of a 1980’s childs bedroom, in a soft, tactile, velvet fabric to depict the time in my life when I lived on the Island of Alderney in the Channel Islands where my fathers ashes lie.
